Because I’ve done the opposite – and I paid for it.

I used to think success meant saying yes to everything.

At 24, I built a multi-six-figure bookkeeping firm with a team, an office, and over 100 clients – and a 70-hour week that left me breaking down at the dinner table.

From the outside, it looked like I’d made it.

But inside? I was exhausted, disconnected, and resentful – from my partner, my joy, and myself.

One night, mid-argument, my husband asked, “Are you even happy?”

I wasn’t. And that question cracked everything open.

So I sold the business. I walked away.

I promised myself that whatever came next would work for my life, not steal it.

Then came motherhood – four and a half years of infertility, IVF, and finally, our son. That season taught me what matters – and what doesn’t.

Now, Fridays are for “Mummy-Toby Days.”

And my business is built to run while I’m making lunch, playing in the park, or resting.

What I know now (that I wish I could tell myself at 24)

You don’t need to say yes to everything to succeed.

You don’t need to work 70 hours a week to prove you’re worthy.

And burnout? That’s not a badge of honour — it’s a sign something’s broken
